Nonunion of the Fifth Metatarsal: Inlay Technique
Nonunion of the fifth metatarsal occurs at the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction of the base of the fifth metatarsal and in the midshaft of the fifth metatarsal. Fractures of the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction are referred to as true Jones fractures instead of purely metaphyseal fractures or so-called pseudo-Jones fractures. The in situ inlay technique described in this chapter is useful for the management of nonunion of fractures of the metaphysealdiaphyseal junction and the midshaft of the fifth metatarsal.
