Proper understanding and restoration of sagittal alignment in the thoracolumbar spine is critical during spinal fusion surgery. In degenerative pathologies, there is usually a loss of lumbar lordosis. Ideally, this needs to be addressed correctly at the index surgery for optimal patient outcome.
