Cases Solved! Meniscal Root Tears
Cases Solved! is a journal-based CME activity series presented by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Each activity consists of an interactive clinical case scenario based on a recent article from the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS) followed by a multiple-choice assessment to put your diagnostic and management skills to the test.

Learning Objectives
- Describe the pathophysiology of meniscal root tears, including common mechanisms of injury and the clinical and biomechanical consequences of such injuries.
- Discuss the typical clinical presentation of a patient with a meniscal root tear, including common symptoms and physical examination findings.
- Identify imaging studies that aid in the diagnosis of meniscal root tears and help guide treatment decisions.
- Review appropriate nonsurgical and surgical treatment options for the management of meniscal root tears.
- Explain the surgical technique for arthroscopic suture repair of the meniscal root, including the indications, contraindications, instrumentation, portal placement, pearls and pitfalls, complications, suture fixation techniques, and rehabilitation protocols.
