Reconstruction of Charcot Midfoot Deformity With Realignment and Arthrodesis
Patients with Charcot neuroarthropathy of the foot may have ulceration, instability, and problems with shoe fit. Even when the problem is recognized early, before the development of significant deformity, treatment time and disability are lengthy and protracted. The development of a rocker-bottom foot accompanies dislocation and results in a bony prominence in the arch, where the soft-tissues are least able to tolerate increased pressures. Ulceration often progresses to infection, osteomyelitis, and amputation.
