Surgery for Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Capitellum
Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the capitellum is a disorder that can result in separation of the subchondral bone and formation of loose bodies. OCD of the capitellum typically occurs in adolescent athletes, most often baseball players, gymnasts, and other athletes who place repetitive loads across the capitellum. OCD of the capitellum should be differentiated from Panner’s disease, which affects the entire capitellum in children younger than 10 years and is self-limiting with few long-term consequences. Symptoms of OCD of the capitellum include pain, locking, catching, and elbow stiffness.
