Proximal Fixation Modular Porous-Coated Proximal Femoral Stems in Revision Hip Arthroplasty
In a patient who requires revision hip surgery, unless the implant to be revised is a resurfacing component, the native femur has suffered slight to severe damage. Slight damage may be noted in a patient who was initially treated with a neck-sparing stem, and severe damage may occur in a patient in whom a fully porous stem was used, resulting in osseointegration over its full length. Loading is required to return damaged bone to normal strength. The more proximal the level of loading after revision surgery, the more complete the recovery will be. Proximal loading is the goal of revision femoral stem insertion if it can be reliably achieved.
