Pelvic Discontinuity
Pelvic discontinuity is the loss of structural continuity between the ileum and ischiopubic portions of the innominate bone or hemipelvis. Typically, this condition occurs in patients in whom acetabular bone is compromised secondary to osteolysis around a failed acetabular component, secondary to acetabular component loosening and/or migration, or as the result of multiple revisions. In addition, iatrogenic discontinuity can occur in revision hip surgery during either implant removal or revision cup placement, or as a result of an acute acetabular fracture in elderly patients.
