Acetabular Bone Impaction Grafting and Cemented Revision
Acetabular bone loss can compromise the outcome of both primary and revision total hip arthroplasty (THA). The surgeon should strive for reconstruction of this bone loss because restoration of bone stock is crucial to the success of future revisions. Acetabular bone impaction grafting in hip reconstruction is appealing from a biologic perspective. The method is based on the principle that the lost bone stock should be restored with the use of cancellous bone grafts tightly impacted in contained defects. This method has been used since 1979, and many long-term follow-up studies of patients in every age group are available in the international literature.
