Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty With a Cemented Acetabular Implant
In the United States, the use of cemented all-polyethylene acetabular implants for primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become less common because of the increased use of noncemented fixation. Cemented acetabular fixation is commonly performed in other countries because of its durability, reproducibility, cost-effectiveness, and modest wear rates. In the United States today, acetabular cement is most commonly used for fixation of a liner into a noncemented cup during revision or as part of a cementin-cement revision procedure. However, some surgeons continue to use cemented, all-polyethylene acetabular implants in all patients undergoing primary THA.
