Technical Considerations for Nonunion and Malunion in Humeral Hemiarthroplasty
Proximal humerus fractures account for approximately 5% of total fractures annually in the United States. Approximately 80% of proximal humerus fractures can be treated nonsurgically. Surgical intervention can be challenging because of soft-tissue disruption of the rotator cuff tendon, associated capsular disruption of the tuberosity segments, a short or comminuted metaphyseal segment, osteopenia, or a perilous blood supply that can lead to collapse of the humeral head segment.
