Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Three- and Four-Part Proximal Humeral Fractures
Three-and four-part proximal humerus fractures have the potential to be severely debilitating injuries. Greater tuberosity displacement can result in substantial pain in overhead activities because of impingement in the subacromial space. Humeral head malalignment can result in rotational deficits of the arm and increase the risk for nonunion, which, in younger and middle-aged patients, can preclude participation in many work-related activities. In geriatric patients, malalignment can affect the ability to perform activities of daily living. Surgical management of three-and fourpart proximal humerus fractures can restore normal anatomy and minimize functional deficits.
