Superior Labrum Anterior to Posterior (SLAP) Repair
Since its initial description in overhead athletes in 1985 and its subsequent naming—superior labrum anterior to posterior (SLAP) lesion—in an arthroscopic series published in 1990, superior labral tear remains a diagnostic challenge, even after conducting a detailed history and physical examination with the use of modern imaging modalities. Asymptomatic, natural degeneration of the superior labrum is common with increasing age and is different from traumatic, symptomatic SLAP tears. Symptomatic injuries to the superior labrum occur rarely, with a reported incidence of 3% to 6%.
