Stenosing tenosynovitis is a diagnosis encountered by both general orthopaedic surgeons as well as hand surgeons. A sound understanding of the diagnosis, clinical history, and pathoanatomy associated with the various presentations of this disease process is essential to provide appropriate treatment. Initial management typically consists of bracing, anti-inflammatory medications, and corticosteroid injections. Although the surgical technique for release in each condition is relatively straightforward, several considerations must be made to avoid potential pitfalls. This module covers the surgical treatment of commonly encountered presentations of stenosing tenosynovitis, including trigger finger, trigger thumb, and de Quervain disease. Although much less common, intersection syndrome has also been included for completeness.Quick Tips
